Cattle Operations Manager

About the Job

Whyalla Beef is seeking an experienced and capable cattle operations professional to support livestock management and farming activities at its operation in Beebo, Queensland. This full-time position is suited to candidates with strong hands-on experience in cattle operations, feedlots, livestock handling, and animal health management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and manage the health, welfare, and condition of cattle.
  • Load and unload livestock trucks safely and efficiently.
  • Pen, draft, count, and handle livestock as required.
  • Plan and coordinate cattle breeding and raising operations.
  • Oversee feeding, nutrition, water, pasture, and fodder programs.
  • Implement appropriate livestock biosecurity and risk-management practices.
  • Organize livestock catching, drenching, and other routine farming activities.
  • Coordinate livestock purchasing, sales, and transportation.
  • Maintain accurate records of farming and livestock activities.
  • Monitor production information and farm technology systems.
  • Oversee maintenance of fences, sheds, pens, water systems, and other infrastructure.
  • Support efficient day-to-day feedlot and farming operations.
  • Assist with planning, budgeting, and management of farm resources.
  • Select, train, and supervise staff or contractors when required.

Requirements

  • Qualification in agriculture, animal science, agribusiness, or a related field.
  • At least five years of relevant experience may substitute for a formal qualification.
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience in cattle operations or feedlots.
  • Experience with livestock handling and transportation logistics.
  • Practical knowledge of feedlot management systems.
  • Previous experience in a farm or livestock production environment is highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of animal health, welfare, feeding, and biosecurity practices.
  • Good organizational and record-keeping skills.
  • Ability to work independently and coordinate farming operations effectively.

Work Environment

This is a hands-on agricultural role based in a cattle and feedlot environment. The position involves regular interaction with livestock, outdoor farming activities, animal handling, transportation operations, and coordination of daily production tasks.

Salary

The advertised salary is $80,000 – $85,000 per year.
