Aviagen USA is seeking a dependable and hardworking Driver’s Assistant to support truck drivers with daily transportation and logistics activities at its Pikeville, Tennessee location. This full-time position is suitable for candidates who are physically capable, safety-conscious, reliable, and comfortable working in outdoor and demanding environments.
The successful candidate will assist with loading and unloading trailers, securing loads, maintaining vehicle cleanliness, reporting equipment issues, and supporting drivers during transportation operations. The position may involve working nights, weekends, holidays, long shifts, and changing weather conditions.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist truck drivers with loading and unloading trailers as required.
- Ensure loads are properly secured before transportation.
- Clean and wash trucks and related equipment when necessary.
- Report truck, trailer, and equipment maintenance issues to the appropriate supervisor.
- Assist with general transportation and logistics activities.
- Follow company safety procedures and operational requirements.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
- Support drivers and other team members with assigned transportation duties.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Requirements
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
- Ability to read and write legibly.
- Ability to work independently and remain self-motivated.
- Strong work ethic, honesty, and professional character.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Previous live poultry tractor-trailer driving experience is required.
- Basic mathematics and calculation skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with drivers, supervisors, and coworkers.
Physical Requirements
This position requires regular physical activity. Candidates should be able to lift up to 50 pounds and repeatedly climb in and out of a truck cab during the workday. The role may also involve loading, unloading, securing, cleaning, and handling equipment.
Work Environment
The position requires working outdoors on a regular basis, including during changing or unfavorable weather conditions. Employees may work around live poultry, raw animal odors, loud environments exceeding 85 decibels, vehicles, and moving equipment.
